Turquoise, Oh how I love you!

What can I say… I am a Turquoise lover. Its bright, it’s beautiful, and it makes me feel all summery, even in the height of winter. It was this love that drove me to source some of the highest quality Turquoise directly from the mines in Arizona, and create my latest collection out of it.

To give a bit of background, Turquoise comes in a lot of different varieties depending on the country and mine in which it’s sourced from. Most popular spots include the US, Iran and Egypt. Considered a holy stone and a giver of good fortune, it’s no wonder that throughout history Turquoise has adorned the likes of the Pharoahs, the Native American Indians and is one of the twelve stones that feature on the breastplate of the Jewish High Priest.

For this particular collection I was most inspired by the Native American Indian Art and Jewellery, so it made sense to go straight to the source. The Sleeping Beauty mine is situated in Arizona and produces some of the most stunning Turquoise you’ll ever see. We’re talking a rich sky blue, little inclusions and the best part… completely undyed and natural.

The Native American Indians generally use a combination of silver and Turquoise to create their pieces. However in this instance, I chose to use a Gold plated sterling silver which I felt intensified the blue even further, and modernized the story. Most of these designs are one-offs, making them all the more special, and always unique!
